PCAF is a not-for-profit organisation created to share love for sequential storytelling with Perth, Australia in free, creator-focused events that are all about making comic books accessible for all ages. Elizabeth is a co-founder and Creative Director of the Festival and has been instrumental in both guiding the development of the organisation and creating innovative new programs and opportunities for comics makers.
MILKTOOTH SCHOOL OF ART AND STORIES
Milktooth is children’s studio that provides high-quality term long courses and school holiday workshops that are designed to inspire and empower. Elizabeth is the co-founder and Director of the school, which, through it’s comics courses, publishes around 200 student comics every year.
The studio space also serves as the organsational base of the Perth Comic Arts Festival and regularly supports local comics makers through a variety of workshop and residency opportunities.
TALE TOWN
Tale Town is the annual comics publication, curated by Elizabeth Marruffo for the Perth Comic Arts Festival. Each issue commissions works from new and established comics-makers and asks them to respond to a different theme. The works are single, full-pages in the tradition of golden-age newspaper comics and provide opportunities for storytellers to explore new ideas and reach new audiences.

This comics publication partnered teens with established comics-makers as they created short works in response to their experiences during the pandemic. The workshops were hosted at Milktooth and debuted at the Perth Comic Arts Festival.
Elizabeth has curated annual comics exhibitions as part of the Perth Comic Arts Festival. The annual exhibitions explore the edges of comics practices and how they intersect with contemporary arts practices.
These exhibitions have been held at galleries such as Spectrum Project Space, Gallery 25, The Western Australian Museum Boola Bardip and The State Library of Western Australia.
COMICS MAKER NETWORK
This community event ran monthly from the Milktooth School of Art and Stories from 2015 until 2022 and provided opportunities for local comics-makers to come together, share skills and make plans.
The Comics Maker Network still lives on in it’s new format as the monthly PCAF: Academy sessions.
MILKTOOTH COMICS RESIDENCY
The 2023 Milktooth Comics Residency saw six local comics makers workshop and support one anothers ambitious projects over a month-long period. This residency period culminated in a open-studio day where the public were invited in to look behind-the-scenes of the comics-making process.
